Orthodontics for Adults
Our office is unique in that we limit our orthodontics exclusively to adults. Dr. Celenza does this because his unique dual certification as both a Periodontist and Orthodontist positions him with a much deeper understanding of the adult patient and dentition. The adult patient usually presents a myriad of dental issues, such as crowns, bridges, implants and periodontal considerations. A working knowledge and understanding of the proper sequencing and demands of this case type is very important, and the adult patient should not be managed in the same way that an adolescent is, both from a service and a therapeutic standpoint.
Adult orthodontic therapy has certain demands that differentiate it from the needs of an adolescent, and Dr. Celenza is specifically trained and experienced in the adult case type. This philosophy does not imply that adult cases are necessarily more difficult than adolescent cases, just that they have different requirements. Dr. Celenza custom tailors each case to meet these individual requirements.
For example, you may have restorative needs that need to be sequenced into your treatment. Dr. Celenza will work closely with your referring dentist, or refer you to one best suited to your needs, to achieve an optimal result. You may have periodontal issues that need to be addressed preparatory to your orthodontic therapy. This may involve special cleaning appointments to ensure optimal health of your gum tissues, and will also likely entail a special hygiene regimen during the course of your treatment. Further, as there is such a wide variety of case types for adults, your appointment interval will be custom tailored to maximize efficiency and cut treatment time.
Lastly, the dictates of retention for the adult patient can be very different from the adolescent. Dr. Celenza will again custom design your retainers and how often and for how long they will need to be worn. He will also suggest a hygiene regimen that is suited to your needs and inclusive of the servicing of your retainers well beyond the completion of your treatment. Our hygiene staff is specifically trained to manage these case types in this way as well.
